The recent investigation by the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance into the surgeon/industry relationships, scientific publishing and marketing of Medtronic's bone morphogenic protein product InFuse was released earlier this week and confirms reports from the June 2011 issue of the North American Spine Society's The Spine Journal.
According to the report, the lead authors on the 13 original studies of InFuse received payments ranging from $1.7 million to $64 million and Medtronic's marketing employees were co-authors and co-editors on the studies.
