SpineGuard received a patent for its "smart screw" concept where the PediGuard sensor is implanted on the tip of a pedicle screw.
The now-patented design allows for a quicker surgical flow and more accurate placement of the pedicle screw.
Pedicle screws are misplaced approximately 20 percent of the time, according to SpineGuard's release. The PediGuard screw's ability to direct the surgeon may set it apart from the more than 200 pedicle screws currently on the market.
