Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis plans on investing $5 million to expand its spine program to include treatments for degenerative disc disease, according to a St. Louis Business Journal report.
The hospital has recruited Dennis Mollman, MD, to help expand its program. Dr. Mollman was one of the first physicians in the U.S. to utilize a new technology — Medtronic's O-arm technology — designed for minimally invasive spine surgery for degenerative disc disease.
In the next three years, the hospital's goal is to add three more physicians to its spine program and bring the number of minimally invasive spine surgeries performed in a year up to 500, according to the report.
