Members of the public have until 5 p.m. Sept. 4 to give CMS feedback as to when and how the regulatory agency should disclose how much individual physicians receive from Medicare, according to a Medscape report.
This information release was made possible in May when a judge lifted a 33-year-old injunction against publicly revealing individual Medicare payment data. CMS is currently seeking "the most appropriate policies" for physician payment disclosure.
CMS has said many aspects of healthcare have changed since the rule banning disclosure was enacted in 1979. These changes include an increase in public desire for information; the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which authorizes the release of physician payment data to qualified entities; and Medicare pay being more standardized.
