A study recently published in Spine examined the SECURE-C Cervical Artificial Disc from Globus Medical to determine the safety and efficacy.
The prospective, randomized, controlled, multicenter investigational device exemption study followed patients for two years. There were 380 patients participating from 18 investigational sites. The researchers compared patients who underwent the disc replacement procedure with patients who underwent anterior cervical discectomy and fusion:
• SECURE-C demonstrated clinically significant improvement at 24 months postoperatively in pain and function
• 2.5 percent of the SECURE-C patients underwent secondary surgical interventions, compared with 9.7 percent in the ACDF group
• 84.6 percent of as-treated SECURE-C patients were range-of-motion successes
• Patient satisfaction was higher in the SECURE-C group
