IU Health has brought on a new team of orthopedic specialists for its Level 1 trauma center.
Walter Virkus, MD, will serve as the director of orthopedic trauma and lead a new team of specialists. Dr. Virkus previously spent 12 years as a member of the orthopedic surgery department at Rush University Medical Center, where he also served as the orthopedic residency program director.
The new team of surgeons will include Todd McKinley, MD, who specializes in the management of major injuries to the limbs, pelvis and spine; Anthony Sorkin, MD, who specializes in pelvis and limb reconstruction and previously served as the director of traumatology for Rockford Orthopedics; and Michael Zlowodzki, MD, who specializes in hip preservation and reconstruction.
