Bret B. Abshire, MD, Alphatec Spine's Scientific Advisory Board (Carlsbad, Calif.). Dr. Abshire serves on Alphatec Spine's Scientific Advisory Board and is vice chair of the surgery department at the Murrieta, Calif.-based Southwest Healthcare System. He is also an assistant clinical professor of surgery at University of California, San Diego. He has a professional interest in disorders of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine as well as spinal instrumentation. He also maintains a private practice in general neurosurgery.

 

Neville Alleyne, MD, Aurora Spine's Scientific Advisory Board (Carlsbad, Calif.). Dr. Alleyne serves on Aurora Spine's Scientific Advisory Board and the director of the orthopedic spine center at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, Calif. He treats a wide-array of spinal disorders and uses minimally invasive techniques. He has founded and served as chief medical director for several start-up companies such as ProSpine and NAS Medical. Jeff Arle, MD, Wenzel Spine's Scientific Advisory Board (Austin, Texas). Dr. Arle serves on Wenzel Spine's Scientific Advisory Board and is the associate chief of neurosurgery at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He is also an associate professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School, also in Boston. He sits on the executive board for the Joint AANS/CNS Pain Section and is a fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He has authored nearly 60 publications.

 

Ian Armstrong, MD, Aurora Spine's Scientific Advisory Board (Carlsbad, Calif.). Dr. Armstrong is an Aurora Spine Scientific Advisory Board member and the medical director of the Southern California Spine Institute in Bakersfield, Calif. He is also an associate scientist in the research division at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Carlson serves on Alphatec Spine's Scientific Advisory Board and is a general partner of Orthopaedic Specialty Institute of Orange County (Calif.). He is also a clinical assistant professor of orthopedics at the University of California, Irvine. His professional memberships include American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and Cervical Spine Research Society. He has published numerous scientific articles and has lectured on spinal reconstructive topics.

 

Gary Dix, MD, Alphatec Spine's Scientific Advisory Board (Carlsbad, Calif.). Dr. Dix is a member of the scientific advisory board at Alphatec Spine and is a the medical director of spine services at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Md., as well as chief of the division of neurosurgery and director of the spine program at Doctors' Community Hospital in Lanham-Seabrook, Md. He practices with Maryland Brain & Spine in Bowie and he performs minimally invasive procedures as well as stereotactic radiosurgery.

 

Frank J. Eismont, MD, Alphatec Spine's Scientific Advisory Board (Carlsbad, Calif.). Dr. Eismont is an Alphatec Spine Scientific Advisory Board member and the Leonard M. Miller Professor and chairman of the department of orthopedic surgery at the University of Miami. He has co-authored more than 110 research articles and has served as a director of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is a past president of the Cervical Spine Research Society and a member of the North American Spine Society and International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine.

 

Daveed Frazier, MD, Director, NuVasive Spine Foundation (San Diego). Dr. Frazier is on the NuVasive Spine Foundation's board of directors. He is an orthopedic spine surgeon and an assistant clinical professor of orthopedic surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He has a professional interest in spinal surgery and correction of spinal deformities. He has also helped develop two successful spinal surgery centers in New York and New Jersey.

 

Steven R. Garfin, MD, SI-BONE's Surgeon Advisory Board (San Jose, Calif.). Stephen H. Hochschuler, MD, Alphatec Spine's Scientific Advisory Board (Carlsbad, Calif.). Dr. Hochschuler is chairman of Alphatec Spine's Scientific Advisory Board and co-founder of the Texas Back Institute in Plano. He is a past president of Spine Arthroplasty Society, now known as the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery. His clinical interests include cervical disc replacement surgery, lumbar disc replacement surgery and spinal cord injury. He has been published in numerous international spine journals and he has authored two books for the lay reader.


 
Jonathan A. Hyde, MD, SI-BONE's Surgeon Advisory Board (San Jose, Calif.). Dr. Hyde is a member of SI-BONE's surgeon advisory board and a clinical assistant professor of orthopedics at Florida International University in Miami. He focuses on both open and minimally invasive surgical techniques. He was one of the three designers for the dbrII minimally invasive pedicle screw system, a FDA approved system. Dr. Johnson serves on Alphatec Spine's Scientific Advisory Board and is a director at Cedars-Sinai Institute for Spinal Disorders and co-director of the Cedars-Sinai Hyperhidrosis Center in Los Angeles. Previously, he has served as co-director of the UCLA Comprehensive Spine Center. John P. Kostuik, MD, CMO, K2M (Leesburg, Va.). Dr. Kostuik is the co-founder and CMO of K2M, a spinal device company. He previously served as chief of spine surgery at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. He has authored papers on numerous topics, such as the basic sciences of spinal pathologies. He has also served as president of the Scoliosis Research Society and North American Spine Society. Carl Lauryssen, MD, Alphatec Spine's Scientific Advisory Board (Carlsbad, Calif.). A member of Alphatec Spine's Scientific Advisory Board, Dr. Lauryssen is the co-director of spine research and development at Olympia Medical Center in Los Angeles. He has previously served as director of the advanced neurosurgical spine program at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He focuses on minimally invasive surgery and motion preservation. He has also been awarded the Young Investigator Award from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons twice.

 

Raymond Linovitz, MD, Aurora Spine's Scientific Advisory Board (Carlsbad, Calif.). Dr. Linovitz is a member of Aurora Spine's Scientific Advisory Board and a retired orthopedic spine surgeon in southern California. He previously provided care at Scripps Memorial Hospital-Encinitas (Calif.) Campus and Thornton Hospital in San Diego. Hallett Mathews, MD, Executive VP, CMO, Paradigm Spine (New York.). Dr. Mathews is executive vice president and CMO of Paradigm Spine. Warren F. Neely, MD, Wenzel Spine's Scientific Advisory Board (Austin, Texas). Dr. Neely is a member of Wenzel Spine's Scientific Advisory Board and practices at Southwest Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. He is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and has been private practice for the last 26 years. Frank M. Phillips, MD, SI-BONE's Surgeon Advisory Board (San Jose, Calif.). Dr. Rashbaum, a member of SI-BONE's surgeon advisory board, is an orthopedic spine surgeon and co-founder of the Texas Back Institute in Plano. He has invented a wide-array of devices, including the Archus Othopedics TFAS system, a spinal implant designed to treat spinal stenosis; and ENDO-FUSE, an intramedullary small bone fusion system. He was a founding member of Berkeley (Calif.) Orthopedics Surgical group, where he practiced for over 20 years. He has received a number of medical awards and has given keynote speeches at spine symposia worldwide.

 

David Schwartz, MD, Director, NuVasive Spine Foundation (San Diego). Dr. Schwartz is on the board of directors of the NuVasive Spine Foundation. He is a spine surgeon with OrthoIndy in Indianapolis and a spinal consultant to the Indiana Pacers. He focuses on spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, kyphosis, spinal deformities and cervical disc disease. He has also been recognized with the North American Spine Society's outstanding research award and he is the inventor of the Anteres Spinal Instrumentation System used for treating spinal fractures, scoliosis and tumors.


 
A. Nick Shamie, MD, SI-BONE's Surgeon Advisory Board (San Jose, Calif.). Dr. Shamie is a member of SI-BONE's surgeon advisory board and an associate professor of orthopedics and neurosurgery at UCLA Comprehensive Spine Center. Scott Spann, MD, Founder, Pantheon Spinal (Austin, Texas). Dr. Spann founded the medical device company in 2007. He is also the founder of Westlake Orthopaedics Spine & Sports in Austin, where he continues to provide care. He is chairman of spine surgery at The Hospital at Westlake Medical Center in Austin and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and North American Spine Society. He has invented two devices — Epiphany and Pontus — that have received FDA clearance, and he has 30 patents pending under the Pantheon Spinal name.  


 
Thomas A. Wilson, MD, Wenzel Spine's Scientific Advisory Board (Austin, Texas). Dr. Wilson is Scientific Advisory Board member at Wenzel Spine and currently practices at St. Vincent's NeuroSpine Center in Birmingham, Ala. He is a partner in Neurosurgical Associates in Birmingham. He is board-certified and a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Jefferson County Medical Society.
