Spine surgeon researchers recently examined the rate of revision surgery after standalone lateral lumbar interbody fusion for lumbar stenosis and published their findings in Spine.
The surgeons examined 117 patients who underwent standalone lateral lumbar interbody fusion for spinal stenosis and found 10.3 percent required a revision surgery. Persistent radiculopathy and symptomatic implant subsidence were the most common reasons for the revision. The average revision time was 10.8 months postoperatively.
They also found no difference in radiographical correction between patients who did and did not require revision surgery.
