James Weinstein, DO, MS, CEO and President of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health System, and his team were awarded the 2014 OREF Clinical Research Award for their work with the Spine Patient Outcomes Research Trial at the American Academy Orthopaedic Surgeons annual meeting.

The trial gathered data from 13 multidisciplinary spine practices in 11 states to research the effectiveness of lumbar spine surgery for intervertebral disc herniation, spinal stenosis and degenerative spondylolisthesis. The researchers found surgery for the appropriately indicated patients can have good outcomes and be cost-effective.
