Maine-based OA Centers for Orthopaedics merged operations with Spectrum Medical Group.
The independent groups are now collectively the largest non-hospital affiliated healthcare provider organization in the state. The two organizations collaborated with two other physician practices in 2011 to form an association of independent specialty physician practices — Specialty Solutions — and Spectrum provides anesthesiology and radiology services to OA.
OA is a large orthopedics-focused practice that includes an ambulatory surgery center. Each organization will maintain relationships with hospitals, health systems and community partners. Collectively, the organizations employ more than 200 physicians and provider staff, and in 2013 the organizations served more than 500,000 patients.
"In today's environment, scale is necessary to remain viable, but by remaining an independent physician-led organization, we continue to be nimble enough to respond to changing marketing demands and patient needs," said OA CEO John Wipfler.
