James Lynch, MD, founder of SpineNevada Minimally Invasive Spine Institute, recently received the High Fives Foundation Community Five Award.
The High Fives Non-Profit Foundation is a Tahoe-based organization dedicated to raising money and awareness for athletes that have suffered a life-altering injury while playing sports. Here are five things to know about Dr. Lynch and his most recent honor:
1. Dr. Lynch was recognized during the organization's inaugural Community Five Awards ceremony in April. Four others received the award as well. "I am very honored to receive this award. Many thanks go to The High Fives Foundation and to those who selected my fellow awardees and me," Dr. Lynch said in a news release.
2. In 2013 Dr. Lynch became the High Fives Organization board director, and he facilitated the opening of the foundation's satellite office at SpineNevada. He has also offered pro-bono services for all current and future High Fives Athletes through SpineNevada. "The SpineNevada team is excited by the opportunity to provide support and resources to The High Fives Foundation in its continued effort to become the safety net for the winter action sports community," said Dr. Lynch in the release.
3. In addition to offering his services to High Fives, Dr. Lynch fostered relationships between Renown Health in Reno and NuVasive – Creative Spine Technology. Dr. Lynch is also medical director for the organization and serves on the Grant Selection Committee.
4. Since 2002, Dr. Lynch has been performing minimally invasive spine surgery techniques, and he is proficient in endoscopic spine surgery. He was the first neurosurgeon in Reno to perform MIS TLIF and MAS PLIF as well as cervical and lumbar artificial disc replacements. He currently performs more than 500 spine surgeries per year in both hospital and outpatient centers.
5. Dr. Lynch is also a pioneer in the ambulatory surgery center field. He is a leading authority on ASC development and serves as partner and director of spine services at Regent Surgical Health, a company that develops hospitals and ASCs. One of his championing initiatives is reducing the cost of orthopedic and spinal implants and he serves on the Orthopaedic Implant Company's board.
