Columbus, Ohio-based OrthoNeuro announced the addition of David Kim, MD, to their multispecialty physician group. He will join the group in July.
Here are five things to know about Dr. Kim and the practice:
1. Dr. Kim has been in private practice focusing in spine surgery for more than 14 years. He is the director of spine surgery at Doctors Hospital and is on staff at Dublin Methodist Hospital, both located in Columbus.
2. Dr. Kim is actively involved in research and was awarded a research grant for MRI and metabolism at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. He focuses on minimally invasive approaches to conditions of the neck and low back.
3. Dr. Kim completed his medical degree at the University of Rochester (N.Y.) School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic residency at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. His additional training includes a spine surgery fellowship at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Ill.
4. OrthoNeuro is a multidisciplinary center, including physicians focusing on orthopedic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery and physical medicine and rehabilitation. It has numerous offices in Ohio in Westerville, New Albany and Dublin as well as satellite locations in Circleville, Galion, Coshocton and London.
5. Several spine surgeons have joined hospitals or new physician practices in recent months. According to a 2014 Medscape report, 52 percent of physicians who were previously employed by a hospital switched to self-employment, where 29 percent of physicians switched from self-employment to hospital employment. Also, 70 percent of those who switched to self-employment from hospital employment reported being happier after the transition.
