The Medscape Orthopedist Compensation Report 2014 reported orthopedic surgeons on average see up to 100 patients per week, spend up to 16 minutes with each patient and have nine or fewer hours of paperwork each week.

Here are 16 statistics from the report:

 

Number of patient visits

 

•    9 percent have 25 to 49 patient visits per week
•    24 percent have 50 to 75 patient visits per week
•    23 percent have 76 to 99 patient visits per week
•    22 percent have 100 to 124 patient visits per week

 

Time spent with each patient

 

•    11 percent spend less than nine minutes with each patient
•    38 percent spend nine to 12 minutes with each patient
•    29 percent spend 13 to 16 minutes with each patient
•    12 percent spend 17 to 20 minutes with each patient

 

Hours spent per week on paperwork for self-employed surgeons

 

•    15 percent spend less than one hour per week on paperwork
•    33 percent spend one to four hours per week on paperwork
•    28 percent spend five to nine hours per week on paperwork
•    11 percent spend 10 to 14 hours per week on paperwork

 

Hours spent per week on paperwork for employed surgeons

 

•    9 percent spend less than one hour per week on paperwork
•    26 percent spend one to four hours per week on paperwork
•    36 percent spend five to nine hours per week on paperwork
•    14 percent spend 10 to 14 hours per week on paperwork
