joimax will be celebrating 10 years successful years on the market with the TESSYS minimally invasive surgical technique at the 4th World Congress of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and Techniques in Paris, France.

Here are five key observations:

1. TESSYS is a gentle surgical technique which utilizes the natural transforaminal access to the spinal canal for the minimally invasive, endoscopic removal of herniated discs. Since 2004, more than 100,000 patients in 30 countries were surgically treated with the TESSYS method and its subsequent surgical developments.

2. During the conference in Paris, two TESSYS pioneers will be awarded the "Parviz Kambin Honorary Award." The first is Dr. Florian Maria Alfen of Würzburg, who bought the very first TESSYS system in 2004 and has successfully operated on more than 2,500 patients. The second award winner is Daniel Laich, MD, of Swedish Convent Hospital in Chicago, who is the very first TESSYS user in the U.S.

3. The company will also present its latest developments at the conference — the EndoLIF system for endoscopic stabilization of the lumbar spine and the Percusys System- a posterior, percutaneous screw and rod system. The EndoLIF system includes an O-Cage for oblique interbody fusion.

4. joimax is actively involved in efforts to improve endoscopic spine surgery outcomes and in 2011, it teamed up with the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery to launch the SMISS Spine Registry for Minimally Invasive Endoscopic Spine Surgery. The registry is designed to collect data concerning decreased hospitalization, recovery times and complication rates for endoscopic spine procedures when compared with traditional open procedures.

5. Several device companies have been celebrating 10-year anniversaries this year, including Arthrosurface's HemiCAP technology that reached its 10-year milestone and NuVasive that celebrated 10 years as a publicly traded company by visiting the NASDAQ Market site to ring the opening bell May 13.
