Compared to all surgeons, orthopedists are especially pessimistic about how the insurance exchanges will impact compensation. Here are five key statistics on orthopedic surgeon compensation from the report:

•    64 percent of orthopedic surgeons expect compensation to decrease with health insurance exchanges
•    32 percent of orthopedic surgeons don't think their compensation will change with the exchange roll out
•    5 percent of orthopedic surgeons expect to see their compensation increase with exchanges
•    22 percent of orthopedic surgeons planned to participate in health insurance exchanges
•    24 percent of orthopedic surgeons reported they won't participate in the exchanges

Just more than half of orthopedic surgeons weren't sure whether they'll participate in the health insurance exchanges when the survey was taken.
