Spine surgeon Robert Watkins, MD, will perform surgery on Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino, according to a Star Advertiser report.
Mr. Victorino is a right fielder for the Red Sox who previously battled hamstring injuries. He reported back tightness last week before undergoing an MRI to confirm his diagnosis. Spine surgery will end Mr. Victorino's 2014 season.
Dr. Watkins will perform the procedure in Los Angeles next week. He is the founder of Watkins Spine in Marina Del Rey, Calif., and has treated several other professional athletes, including Peyton Manning and Dwight Howard.
