Ortho Kinematics entered into an agreement with Medtronic to promote the company's Vertebral Motion Analysis test to spine surgeons.
VMA is Ortho Kinematics' flagship spine diagnostic test that can be prescribed as an alternative to the flexion/extension X-ray tests. Here are five things to know about the partnership:
1. VMA recently completed an 18 month limited scale initial launch with successful results.
2. In clinical studies, VMA produced more accurate and reproducible results than traditional manual X-ray tests to detect spinal instability with greater sensitivity.
3. The spinal diagnostics market has a handful of on-market and development stage products. Most analysts find the diagnostics area represents strong growth potential within spine surgery and OKI is recognized as the market leader.
4. Global revenue potential for VMA is more than $5 billion. The other terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
5. Under the agreement, Medtronic's Spinal and Biologics division will promote the VMA to spine surgeons.
