Dr. Raj Rao to chair FDA's Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Devices Panel

Raj Rao, MD, has been named chairperson of the Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Devices Panel of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, according to a Wauwatosa Now report.

Dr. Rao is a professor of orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin and a practicing orthopedic spine surgeon at Froedtert Hospital and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and serves on the board of directors of the North American Spine Society. He has a professional interest in minimally invasive spine surgery, surgical management of neck and back disorders, spinal tumors, spine trauma and spinal deformity.

 

Dr. Rao has served as a voting member on the Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Devices Panel since 2006. The panel reviews the safety and efficacy of orthopedic and spine-related devices for marketing in the United States and advises the FDA, according to the report.
