Shelton, Conn.-based Spine Wave hired Laine Mashburn as executive vice president of global marketing and business development.

Mr. Mashburn was one of the original 12 employees at DePuy Motech, which pioneered breakthrough technologies such as the transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion and the first polyaxial screw. He grew to become the Vice President Sales – Americas at DePuy Spine and was Vice President, Worldwide Strategy and Development for Johnson & Johnson's DePuy Synthes.

Mr. Mashburn started his own company, Venturemedica, after leaving Synthes. Venturemedica is a healthcare focused strategic and commercial services firm.

Spine Wave recently underwent the full commercial launch for its lateral access product portfolio, the Abacus Lateral Spacer System, XLR Lateral Access System and a full complement of disposable accessories.

"I have always been intrigued with the [Spine Wave] and its focus on novel technologies but I had no idea that their product pipeline was so robust," said Mr. Mashburn. "I feel like I am joining at the ideal time. In addition to the recently launched Annex Adjacent Level System and the new lateral access product portfolio, the company plans an extensive series of important and highly differentiated product introductions over the next 18 months. I am very excited to be joining the team."
