According to "Deloitte's 2013 Survey of U.S. Physicians: Physician perspectives about healthcare reform and the future of the medical profession" report, 73 percent of surgical specialists believe that it's "likely" or "very likely" hospitals and physicians will become more integrated over the next one to three years.
Among non-surgical specialists, only 61 percent reported feeling integration was more likely in the near future. However, 71 percent of primary care physicians and 63 percent of other physicians see integration coming.

However, for now only 31 percent of surveyed physicians reported having integrated over the past two years, with the major reasons being to gain or retain income security or to leverage negotiation power with payors, according to the report.
