Medtronic has begun enrolling patients in its clinical trial for a back pain treatment device, according to the Memphis Business Journal.

The trial is for its peripheral nerve stimulation technique, where electrical leads are implanted in the lower back and mild pulses are sent to interrupt pain signals traveling to the brain, according to the report.

Medtronic is looking to recruit 323 people at 30 centers across the U.S. The study could last up to five years. The company started similar trials in Europe, Israel, Australia and Canada.
