More than 100 orthopedic surgeons plan to visit Washington DC on Thursday, May 2, to lobby members of Congress as part of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons National Orthopaedic Leadership Conference.
The surgeons will address several topics, including the sustainable growth rate, in-office ancillary services and repealing the Independent Payment Advisory Board.
"Leaving Medicare payment decisions in the hands of unelected, unaccountable governmental body with minimal congressional oversight will negatively affect timely access to care for older Americans, military families and people with disabilities," said Thomas C. Barber, MD, chair of the AAOS Council on Advocacy, in a news release. "AAOS members want the very best for their patients and members of Congress want the same for their constituents."
