The healthcare sector added 19,000 seasonally adjusted jobs in April, 5,400 of which occurred in physicians' offices, according to preliminary results from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Physicians' offices employed a seasonally adjusted total of 2.4 million people last month, roughly half as many as hospitals, according to the bureau's preliminary numbers. That number was up from March's total, which had fallen slightly from February.

Ambulatory service facilities added 13,600 jobs in April, mostly from physicians' offices services and home health services, as well as 900 in outpatient care settings including ambulatory surgery centers.

Hospital job growth grew more slowly in April than the 6,300 seasonally adjusted jobs added in March, according to the department's preliminary figures, but continued the year's upward job trend.
