Perth Amboy, N.J.-based Raritan Bay Medical Center announced that it has joined the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Project JOINTS initiative, a program that is designed to speed adoption of surgical site infection prevention methods.
Project JOINTS stands for "Joining Organizations IN Tackling SSI." It focuses on hip and knee replacement surgeries because infections resulting from these procedures can result in disastrous consequences for the patient, including prolonged periods of recuperation and sizeable out-of-pocket expenses.
